Golf Tips

#1: Your golf club grips- How often do you replace the grips on your clubs? If you play more than 30 times a year, you should replace them every year. But in between replacements, you should also be sure to clean your grips frequently. Clean grips stay tackier longer and retain their softness better, too. Use warm, soapy water and then rinse them and dry them. Your grips are the only connection between you and the club -- so be sure to keep them clean.

#2: Long Sand Shot- You are in the sand with a good lie, but need to hit the ball 40 or 50 yards to carry either over the lip of the bunker or to make it to the pin, and running the ball up to the green is not an option.

What to do?

Heres what to do, use an 8 iron and enter the sand two inches behind the ball while using a full swing, but without trying to hit it as hard as you can.

In using this approach, if a mistake is made you won't be as likely to hit the ball too far, which may put you over the green where most of the trouble tends to lurk on any given hole.

#3 Correct that slice - If you want to hit the ball at the green, you need to place your feet parallel to the target. This means aiming left of the target and not at the target.

Check your alignment! While you practice or after you hit a shot, get into your address position and place the shaft of your club on the ground so the shaft is touching the toes of your left and right foot. Next, walk behind the club laying on the ground and see which way it is pointing. Make sure you walk at least 15 feet behind the club on the ground. The further back behind the club you get, the easier you will be able to see where you are aiming.

Stay bent over at the waist every time you look at the target. If you stay bent over and turn your chin (without lifting your chin) to the side to look at the target you will most likely line up parallel to the target. Stay bent over, turn your chin to the side. Your shoulder is in your view of the target, this will tell you that you are aiming to the right of the target.

Enjoy!
